First bit of APH

So far I'm really not quite sure what exactly I think of this book. Its a strange mix of feelings. On the one hand it seems very detached and almost desolate in just about every way since the writing can get choppy, there aren't many actual names used, and there are no real quotes. It also puts me off a bit because its hard to tell whats going on exactly sometimes, again with the lack of names or legitimate quotations and that it jumps around a fair bit. One section that was especially confusing, that I had to read twice just to make sure I understood, was the whole part with John's grandfather and the house and how they moved or something. I'm still a little unsure of what exactly was going on. At the same time though, I enjoy the book and the style of writing and the way it all sounds and even that it is partially barren and almost morbid. I definitely see the classic cowboyness in parts of it too like how at the beginning he basically rides off into the sunset. Overall I'm interested to see how it progresses.
